Equinix's new facility, the BA2 International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center, will be located next to the company's existing BA1 site, creating a campus and a dense digital ecosystem. This expansion will provide the city's essential digital capacity, supporting local businesses' growth and attracting international companies to establish or expand their presence on Platform Equinix® in Barcelona. Barcelona is already a crucial and strategically positioned hub for global communications.

At the inauguration, Eulalia Flo, Managing Director of Equinix Spain, along with Sales Director Javier Gómez Benito and Juan Romero Cosano, Director of IBX Operation for the Iberia region, welcomed the attendees and led a tour around Equinix's new facility.
Minister Sàmper emphasized that the opening of this new data center "is a decisive step in consolidating our territory as a strategic reference point in Europe and places Catalonia in a key position for the transfer of data between Europe, Africa, and the Middle East." Furthermore, the Minister of Business and Labour stressed that Catalonia has always been a pioneer in digital transformation and that "a project of this magnitude is a clear example of how the private sector can be a strategic ally for the objectives we share as a country."
Finally, the Minister noted that with this new infrastructure, "Catalonia is strengthening its position as a magnet for the most important international organizations in the technology field."
The new building has been designated as the BA2 International Business Exchange and will operate in coordination with the BA1 in Barcelona. The facilities are 2,500 square meters and have a capacity of 3.41 MW.
Equinix's new data center in Barcelona is about more than digital innovation. It's also about sustainability. The facility will operate on 100% renewable energy and has been designed to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
