Since the tech giant chose Barcelona as the base of operations for its R&D hub in 2021, the company's staff has grown by 50% in the last three years.
Roger Torrent, the Minister of Labour for Catalonia, praised the news and stated that Microsoft was "redoubling its commitment to Catalonia and Barcelona". "Catalonia is very well positioned. We want to consolidate ourselves as the main tech hub in southern Europe and news like this assures us that we are on the right track in this regard".

Catalonia based R&D hub is part of Microsoft’s WebXT (Web Experiences Team) division, an organization of more than 5,000 people focused on the development of Artificial Intelligence technology to improve user experience on the internet.
Catalonia Trade & Investment, the government's agency for economic competitiveness, assisted the tech company to establish itself in Catalonia through its offices in Silicon Valley and Barcelona.
