The new hub consolidates Barcelona as Scopely’s main technological and creative center in Europe.

U.S.-based Scopely, one of the world’s leading video game companies, has inaugurated its new 8,500 m² tech hub in Barcelona’s 22@ district this Monday. With this new facility, the company strengthens its presence in the Catalan capital as its main technological center in Europe, where it now employs over 700 people.

To set up and expand in Catalonia, Scopely received support from Catalonia Trade & Investment, which also advises and assists companies throughout their post-establishment processes in the region.

“Barcelona is the location where we’re experiencing the most growth. When we were looking for a tech hub in Europe from Los Angeles, we explored several cities, and Barcelona was the most welcoming”

Javier Ferreira, Scopely Co-CEO

The opening ceremony of Scopely’s new hub was attended by the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa; the Minister of Culture, Sònia Hernández Almodóvar; the Secretary for Business and Competitiveness at the Ministry for Business and Labour and CEO of Catalonia Trade & Investment, Jaume Baró; the Director General of Innovation and Digital Culture, Marisol López; and the Deputy Mayor for Economic Promotion of the Barcelona City Council, Raquel Gil, among others. Representing Scopely were Co-CEO Javier Ferreira, Playgami CTO Hugo Pibernat, and Director of Operations in Spain, Néstor Pequeño.

During his speech, President Illa highlighted, "Among other European cities, Barcelona stands out for its stability, its ability to attract talent, and its balanced lifestyle. 30% of Spain’s video game industry is based in Catalonia, and we have the strengths here to drive it forward."

Javier Ferreira, Scopely Co-CEO, declared, "Barcelona is the location where we’re experiencing the most growth. When we were looking for a tech hub in Europe from Los Angeles, we explored several cities, and Barcelona was the most welcoming. Catalonia Trade & Investment has supported us from the very beginning and continues to do so today."

Hugo Pibernat, CTO of Playgami, Scopely’s proprietary platform and head of the company in Barcelona, also added, "Of the 20 people who started Scopely in Barcelona, 18 of us are still with the company. That speaks volumes about Barcelona’s ability to retain talent. The story of Barcelona and Scopely is one of the future."

Scopely’s new hub in Barcelona, located in the Green Business District campus, brings together teams that were previously spread across two offices in the city, fostering technological innovation, collaboration, and creativity in a single space. The Catalan capital also hosts the global headquarters of Playgami, Scopely’s proprietary tech platform that powers the development and operation of all its games.

Furthermore, Barcelona is home to FLAMED, Scopely’s in-house creative marketing agency and communications lab, which employs around one hundred creatives. In total, Scopely’s Barcelona team consists of 700 multidisciplinary professionals focused on designing, developing, and growing many of the company’s global game titles.

Scopely arrived in Barcelona in 2017 with the opening of its first European headquarters. Today, it is the largest video game company in Spain in terms of workforce, with nearly 1,000 employees between its centers in Barcelona and Seville, along with various remote teams. Globally, Scopely is the leading mobile gaming company in the United States. It operates across four continents and employs nearly 3,000 people worldwide.

From Barcelona, the company develops successful games such as Monopoly GO!, Stumble Guys, Yahtzee With Buddies, Scrabble GO, and Star Trek Fleet Command, played by millions around the world. In 2024, Scopely’s games reached nearly 500 million global players. In the first half of 2025, Scopely surpassed $10 billion in cumulative revenue and exceeded 1 billion downloads.

Barcelona, the epicenter of Europe’s tech talent and video game industry

Barcelona has established itself as a magnet for tech talent and a preferred destination for major companies in the sector. The city is currently home to more than 100 tech hubs, employing over 15,000 professionals and generating an annual economic impact of more than €1.4 billion.

In this context, Catalonia has become a benchmark in the video game industry, with a solid ecosystem that includes 239 development studios, representing 30% of all companies in the sector nationwide.
