Fischer expands its footprint in Catalonia with the opening of its first automated warehouse outside Germany in Tarragona, Catalonia. Backed by a €4 million investment, the project creates three jobs and secures around 40 existing positions.
German multinational Fischer has inaugurated its first automated warehouse outside Germany in Mont-roig del Camp (Tarragona), Catalonia, following an investment of more than €4 million. The project has created three new jobs while securing around 40 existing positions. The inauguration was attended by the President of the Government of Catalonia, Salvador Illa; CEO of the Fischer Group, Alexander Bässler; Managing Director of Fischer Ibérica, José Luis Massana; and the Mayor of Mont-roig del Camp, Fran Morancho.
For this project, Fischer Ibérica received support from ACCIÓ–Catalonia Trade & Investment, the agency for business growth belonging to the Ministry for Business and Labour. Specifically, the company was awarded €2.25 million through the 2024 High-Impact Business Investment grant programme, financed by the Nuclear Transition Fund, which supports business projects in areas affected by the phased closure of nuclear power plants.

The investment by the company, best known for inventing the nylon wall plug and specializing in fastening technologies, has enabled the installation of 10 autonomous robots and will increase storage capacity at its Tarragona facilities by 50%. The site serves customers across Catalonia, the rest of Spain, Andorra and Portugal.
According to José Luis Massana, Managing Director of Fischer Ibérica, “This automated warehouse marks a new chapter for the company. It strengthens our logistics capabilities, improves efficiency and prepares us for further growth. While we generated €25 million in revenue in 2016, we reached €52 million in 2025. Today, we are ready to take the next step in our growth.”
The upgraded facility includes a 5,000-square-meter warehouse, featuring a 500-square-meter automated storage area equipped with a robotic storage system comprising 14,040 bins, 10 autonomous robots, two picking stations and one inbound materials station.
The installation also incorporates AI-powered software designed to improve productivity and optimize order preparation processes. The new center will speed up order fulfillment and shipping while managing up to 4,000 product references. It combines capacity for 2,500 pallets in the conventional warehouse with the new automated bin storage system, improving product availability and service efficiency for customers in the construction, industrial, energy, and infrastructure sectors.
The new system also stands out for its energy efficiency. The 10 robots consume approximately the same amount of electricity as a household vacuum cleaner, making the solution one of the most energy-efficient automated storage systems currently available on the market.
Founded in Germany in 1948, the Fischer Group operates 52 subsidiaries in 39 countries and employs more than 5,400 people worldwide. The multinational is active in fastening systems, consulting, educational construction toys, assembly automation and tool manufacturing.
Founded in 1962, Fischer Ibérica employs more than 110 people and focuses on fastening technologies. The company operates its headquarters and warehouse in Mont-roig del Camp, as well as offices in Sant Cugat del Vallès and Madrid.
