The inauguration was presided over by Salvador Illa, President of the Government of Catalonia, alongside Jordi Hereu, Spain’s Minister of Industry and Tourism.
With a total surface of 114,000 m², the HIPRA Campus integrates R&D, production, and strategic development units. It triples the company’s research capacity in both human and animal health, reinforcing Catalonia’s global leadership in biotechnology and vaccine development.
“This infrastructure will drive scientific progress and prosperity,” said President Salvador Illa. “Catalonia is capable of creating a significant impact in Europe and the world, and HIPRA’s commitment demonstrates the power of research and innovation in improving health.”
The campus is designed as much more than an infrastructure: it will serve as an international center of excellence for biotechnology, equipped with next-generation laboratories, production plants, and collaborative workspaces. Over 400 professionals are already working at the new facilities, with the number expected to rise to more than 3,000 professionals worldwide across HIPRA’s operations.
According to HIPRA CEO David Nogareda, “The HIPRA Campus is not just a facility; it is an ecosystem where science, technology, and sustainability converge. Our goal is to position it among the main biotech hubs in Europe, leading innovation in vaccines and health solutions.”
Spanish Minister of Industry and Tourism Jordi Hereu underlined the European impact of the project: “Facilities like HIPRA Campus strengthen Europe’s resilience and autonomy in biotechnology, essential for future public health challenges.”
The new HIPRA Campus includes:
Sustainability is a core element of the new HIPRA Campus. The facilities integrate District Heating and Cooling systems, as well as rainwater recovery technologies, significantly reducing environmental impact. HIPRA’s approach aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and strengthens Europe’s capacity to respond to global health challenges under the One Health perspective.
With 108 vaccines in its portfolio and 35 new projects in development, HIPRA continues to position itself as a global leader in biotechnology and vaccine innovation from Catalonia.
