Italian company Maschiopack to invest €6 million in Tarragona and create 30 new jobs

The Italian company Maschiopack has invested 6 million euros in its industrial container manufacturing plant in Tarragona, where they have deployed a second production line. With this investment, the company, which produces liquid transportation containers for sectors such as food and chemicals, foresees doubling its production capacity through design improvements and plans to hire up to thirty people when the new line reaches full capacity over the next four years.

This company's growth and improvement project received support and a grant of 200,000 euros from ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment, the agency for business competitiveness under the Ministry of Business and Labour, through its High-Impact Incentives program. The Secretary for Business and Competitiveness and CEO of ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment, Albert Castellanos, visited the company's facilities in Reus and met with the managing director of the company’s Catalan subsidiary, Xavier Guinovart.

Specifically, Maschiopack's project was channeled through its Catalan subsidiary, partially owned by the Guinovart family. The company allocated this investment to adapt its facilities and accommodate the new production line, adding increased storage space and auxiliary services.

During the meeting, the secretary for Business and Competitiveness and CEO of ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment, Albert Castellanos, assured that "projects such as Maschiopack's demonstrate that Catalonia has both the potential to continue attracting new investors who are not currently present in the country, and also creating the conditions and confidence for multinational companies already established in Catalonia to reinvest". He also added that "more industrial investment means a more open, productive economy that generates stable and high-quality employment", as well as highlighting, "with 750 companies, Italy is the fifth country with the most foreign companies located in Catalonia and one of the main trading partners of Catalan businesses".

Maschiopack manufactures various types of one-cubic-meter capacity containers designed for the storage and transportation of liquids in industrial sectors, ranging from olive oil to food pastes, agrochemicals, and chemicals. According to Xavier Guinovart, the managing director of Maschiopack in Tarragona, "Our thousand-liter containers have gained significant global market presence thanks to being recyclable, convenient, and versatile, gradually capturing market share from both bulk tanks and the 200-liter drums previously used".

For the production of these containers, Maschiopack uses steel and different types of 100% reusable plastics, 25% of which also come from recycled sources. In some of the models, wood is also used. According to the director of Maschiopack in Tarragona, "the thousand-liter containers fit perfectly into the circular economy, as they are designed for multiple uses and are reusable and recyclable containers."

Maschiopack, of Italian and family origin, was established in Constantí (Tarragona) in 2012. In Catalonia, the subsidiary operates under the name Maschiopack Ibérica and serves the Spanish, Portuguese, and southern French markets. Currently, they have around 40 employees, a workforce they plan to expand over the coming years.
