zurich chooses barcelona to install its worldwide big data centre

Zurich spain’s chief executive officer, vicente cancio, announced this thursday that the insurance company has chosen barcelona as the site to locate its worldwide big data centre. london, mexico and singapore were other possible locations. in an informative breakfast cancio explained that it will be finally installed in the technology centre that zurich already has in barcelona. zurich employs at present some 250 people in the city, and that they will hire 200 more employees over the next two years.
cancio stressed that the company chose the catalan capital due to its ability to attract talent thanks to the quality of life here, and given its reasonable living costs. the centre will concentrate zurich’s big data agenda for the whole world, and the jobs that will be created will be of a high added value, with international profiles who will locate in barcelona. this operation is an example of the company’s clear commitment to the city.
