The finnish multinational wipak, present in catalonia for 20 years now, has invested €7.5 million in a new production plant in llinars del vallès, (vallès oriental). the 4,400m2 facility is set to double the production capacity of the previous plant the firm ran in palau de plegamans (vallès occidental).
wipak is due to shift activity any day to the new facility. in the beginning, the plant will provide some forty jobs, but is expected to expand once the order book starts to fill. wipak’s spanish branch estimated a 25% rise in turnover in 2011 up to €17 million. the new facility at llinars will enable wipak to expand its product range, currently based on packaging for the food industry, into plastics for the pharma sector, for the moment, packaging for surgical equipment.
wipak has been provided with support by the catalan government via its investment arm; invest in catalonia, which last year was responsible for drawing in a total of €240 million in investment from overseas into catalonia.
