Industrial gases specialist Messer announced the construction of a new production plant for gases at its location in Catalonia. The German company will invest more €35M in the south of the Tarragona Chemical Complex and the plant will have a capacity of 2,400 tons of oxygen, nitrogen and argon per day.
Messer is, therefore, expanding its activities in Catalonia and laying the foundation for further growth in Western Europe. Karl Hauck, General Manager of Messer Ibérica, said at the presentation of the project that “it is great news to be able to announce, in the year of the 50th anniversary of Messer Ibérica, the construction of this new plant in Tarragona. In these times of pandemic, Messer had to prioritize investments worldwide and decided to do so in Spain. With this decision, the Messer Group confirms its long-term commitment to this area".
The new production plant will be connected to the Messer pipeline network to meet the growing oxygen and nitrogen demand of the chemical industry in Tarragona. Also, manufacturing companies in the region will be supplied with gases - liquefied in tankers and gaseous in cylinders.
During the planning and construction phase, around 200 people will be working on this project; after completion, Messer will employ more than 20 people in the new plant. The commissioning is scheduled for December 2021.
