Japanese multinational Omron sets up new automated industrial facility in Catalonia aiming at European market

Nippon multinational omron – a leading light worldwide in mechanical automated processes, has just finished setting up a new automated industrial centre in barcelona aimed at the european market. the company has invested over €1 million in the new infrastructure and taken on 20 highly skilled employees. this centre is the fourth of its type set up by omron across the globe following those opened in japan, china, and the us.
the company has been present in barcelona for over 10 years, with a workforce of 30 software, hardware and application technology experts. due to its success here, omron recently decided to expand its operations in catalonia, leading to the opening of this new centre for automation which will now see its capacity to take on engineering and development work expanded, while enabling the firm’s clients to experience and try and out the latest technology for themselves.
the new omron centre, staffed by a workforce of some 50 qualified engineers, occupies an area of 1,700 m² including areas for software and robotics research and development, an equipment centre and showroom. the centre also has several models of the new platform; sysmac automation launched by the firm onto the market a year ago. among other uses, the facility will also act as a training centre for all omron engineers in europe, as well as being a venue for meetings and demonstrations of the new products being turned out by the company for its clients.
the company has been provided with help and advice from invest in catalonia; the investment and regional development arm of the catalan government department of enterprise and employment.
