Invest in catalonia, the agency specialised in attracting inward investment of the department of enterprise and employment from the government of catalonia, has been instrumental in creating a total of 1,882 jobs due to international investment in catalonia throughout 2011. this represents a year on year rise of 70.9% to which a further 1,900 jobs kept on can be added, up 14% on the previous year.
the volume of investment mentored by invest in catalonia topped €240 million, a growth of 215% with respect to the year before. in 2011 the number of business projects realised, in total 38, was the most significant in the last five years, despite the backdrop of the global economic downturn.
these excellent results are no doubt a reflection of the priority given by the government of catalonia to greater efforts made in detecting sound new investment in the territory, providing more support to the existing network of the 34 acc1ó offices across the globe as a gateway to make such operations a reality. indeed, last year, a majority of investment initiatives were identified through this channel.
among the most outstanding investments undertaken in catalonia in 2011 are those of the multinationals: fujitsu, accenture, computer associates, hayes lemmerz, continental automotive and nisshin oillio among others.
