This new plant with innovative ODC technology produces chlorine efficiently and sustainably, a clear example of Covestro's fully circular strategy.
German company Covestro, the world’s leading manufacturer of high-quality polymer materials and components, inaugurated yesterday its new chlorine production plant in Tarragona (Catalonia), a project involving an investment of around 200 million euros and the creation of 50 new jobs.
The commissioning of this new plant, the world's first chlorine production plant based on ODC (oxygen-depolarized cathode) technology, will provide Tarragona with an efficient, independent, and permanent supply of chlorine and caustic soda, two essential elements for the chemical industry, as well as a key raw material for many other strategic sectors.
ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment, the agency for business competitiveness of the Department of Business and Labour, supported Covestro's growth project in Tarragona.
The inauguration event was attended by the President of the Government of Catalonia, Pere Aragonès, the delegate of the Government of Catalonia in Tarragona, Àngel Xifré, the secretary of Business and Competitiveness and CEO of ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment, Albert Castellanos, and Covestro's Global CCO, Sucheta Govil, Covestro's Chief Commercial Officer, and the company's General Manager in Spain, Andrea Firenze.
