The German pharmaceutical company Bayer strengthens its activity in Catalonia with the opening of the new LifeHub Barcelona, a space of more than 650 sqm dedicated to the acceleration of innovative projects in the fields of health and agriculture. The LifeHub was presented at the Mobile World Congress 2022 in Barcelona.
The new hub will be a collaborative location that follows Bayer's open innovation strategy and aims to interact and gather knowledge from the local ecosystem.
"We strongly believe that collaboration is the engine of innovation. With Bayer's LifeHub Barcelona, we want to create an environment of collaboration with key players in the fields of digital therapies and the transformation of agriculture, to help identify and develop viable proposals that can contribute to improving people's lives", said Bernardo Kanahuati, CEO of Bayer in Spain and Portugal.
Barcelona, a benchmark in innovation
Starting in the second half of 2022, LifeHub Barcelona will be available to all interested agents at Bayer's Iberia headquarters in Sant Joan Despí (Barcelona).
According to Bayer, the city of Barcelona has now become the fifth European startup hub, standing out especially in Southern Europe with more than 1,900 startups operating in an innovative, attractive and multicultural environment.
In this context, the LifeHub BCN will operate as a network for improvement and connection with other Bayer innovation centers in the Mediterranean cluster, such as Seville and Almeria.
Currently, LifeHub Barcelona already interacts with the local innovation ecosystem and participates in different programs and initiatives, such as BCN Health Hub or Mobile World Capital's The Collider program.
In the 2020 financial year, the Bayer Group, with around 100,000 employees, had a turnover of €41.4 billion and spent €4.9 billion before special items on research and development.
