The German group BASF, in 2021, will invest € 30M in the Canonja production plant it has in the Tarragona chemical complex. Specifically, a scheduled shutdown is planned at the BASF Propanchem Sonatrach plant, the joint-venture for producing propane gas, and which will involve a 12 million euro asset investment to increase its capacity.
The investment in Catalonia is part of BASF's growth plan in Spain for 2021, totaling €60M. “Investment is the greatest indicator of a company's commitment to the country where it operates. To continue investing in the country, to do so at this high level and with strategic Group investments such as those planned, confirms the BASF Group's commitment to our territory ”, says Carles Navarro, general director of the company in Spain and Portugal.
Navarro added: "2020 has been a good year for innovation in Spain, especially in the field of digital transformation." In November 2020, it was announced that their La Canonja production center will become the first chemical complex in Spain to have a private 5G network. BASF is developing a pilot project together with Cellnex Telecom, a pioneer in Spain and one of the first for BASF worldwide. "It will be a before and after moment for our factory, creating the foundation of our Industry 4.0 development".
