Just a few months after opening the audi q3 welding facility, the luxury german car maker has set up a new project in which it aims to open a plant specialised in machinery for car part moulds and bodywork for the automotive industry.
a major part of the new investment is earmarked for technical machinery, such as three huge, 2,500 tonne hydraulic presses, a giant lathe and further complementary machines, according to company sources.
the money behind the new plant facilities is being put up by the subsidiary: audi tooling barcelona, founded in 2003 and which has enjoyed significant growth over the last few years, due in no small measure to the project development of the audi q3, as well as models for seat and volkswagen managed by the firm. in an initial phase of investment, audi tooling plans to take on some 75 new members of staff, who will be highly qualified technicians form the world of engineering and of metallurgy.
“the aim –according to company information – is to provide the company with its own capability of being able to ensure it is able to maintain itself at the forefront of body work and panel moulding. this means being able to continually guarantee and improve upon our products, as well as react to any potential or foreseeable shortcomings in capacity within the sector over the coming years.”
