The union for the mediterranean makes its debut in barcelona

The union for the mediterranean (ufm) has officially made its debut in barcelona, at its headquarters at the pedralbes palace. the new international organization brings together 43 countries, including eu members, african nations and the arab league. its secretary general will be jordanian diplomat ahmed jalaf masade.
"the ufm places barcelona at the heart of the mediterranean activity, with a very important economic aspect," catalan secretary for the eu alberto moreno said.
the ufm will develop euro-mediterranean cooperation projects in six areas: sea decontamination, land and sea highways, civil protection, alternative energies, university exchanges and business development.
