Business Investments · Life Sciences
Bayer, the multinational pharmaceutical company, has established a strong presence in Catalonia, operating both as the headquarters for its Spanish business and as a key hub for its global operations. Located in Sant Joan Despí (Barcelona), Bayer’s hub is home to 850 talented employees from around 40 different nationalities, working across five key areas: supply chain, IT, finance, procurement, and R&D.
According to Marc Ferré Hausmann, Managing Director of Bayer Barcelona, the company chose Catalonia for three main reasons: its strong footprint as the Iberian headquarters, the availability of highly skilled talent, and a thriving business ecosystem.

The region’s world-class universities, hospitals, and research centers, combined with its ability to attract both national and international talent, make it an ideal location for companies in the life sciences sector. Additionally, Catalonia’s cultural and geographical proximity to major markets like EMEA and the US enhances its global reach.
The German multinational has recently launched a new R&D area at Hub in Barcelona, adding 82 experts in agriculture and medicine. The center has been recognized as Bayer's Hub of Excellence on a global scale. The newly established R&D area is part of this hub and aims to enhance its capabilities to support global research efforts, advancing innovation in health and agriculture.
