Mercadona to invest eur 700 million in catalonia

Supermarket chain mercadona has announced an investment of eur 700 million in catalonia during the next five years. the plan, which will create 4,000 jobs, highlights catalonia's position as a strategic market for the company, mercadona ceo juan roig said. the food industry is crucial for the catalan economy because of its role in "generating wealth and employment,” he added.
a portion of the investment, about eur 300 million, is to be used for the construction of a new logistics center, in a location to be announced later. invest in catalonia-acc1ó is working with mercadona to facilitate the investments.
throughout catalonia, mercadona has 144 supermarkets and a warehouse in san sadurni d'anoia, with a total workforce of 8,400 employees. last year, the valencia-based company bought eur 2.8 billion in catalan products.
