lidl came into the spanish market 17 years ago with a store in lerida and since those times has grown to command a network of 520 establishments throughout spain, of which 94 are located in catalonia. the constant evolution of the firm has enabled it to open eight logistical bases the length and breadth of the country. michael aranda, ceo of lidl supermarkets in spain was clear about the firm’s pledge to the region. “lidl is committed to an ongoing program of investment in catalonia, enlarging and updating existing supermarkets, with some €100 million earmarked to invest in a project calculated at providing 300 direct jobs.” he also added that the investment would take in a number of stores to be set up in new locations too.
the firm is also working to forge closer ties with catalonia, attested to by the fact that some 150 local firms now sell their products not only in stores in home, but have also been able to take the opportunity to use the window offered by lidl to sell their wares to a further 20 countries of the group’s network.
