The company has invested 12 million euros and will create up to 100 highly skilled jobs to set up this 500 m2 facility close to Barcelona, which will test and produce a small microchip series designed by the company over the last seven years.
IDEADED has inaugurated in Viladecans (Barcelona) the largest private semiconductor cleanroom in Southern Europe. The company has invested 12 million euros in the facilities and intends to continuously develop, test, and produce a small series of microchips designed by them (between 5 and 20 million units per year).
In this first phase, the company will hire up to 100 highly qualified workers, mainly engineers and profiles related to developing materials and processes for producing end caps and modeling the technology.
The Government of Catalonia, through Avançsa and the Catalan Institute of Finances, has granted the company a loan of 6 million euros and a grant of 217,488 euros from the Re-industrialization line of the General Directorate of Industry to support this project, which the government considers to be highly strategic for Catalonia.
This project also has the support of ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment, the Business Competitiveness Agency of the Ministry of Business and Labour.
“We want to position Catalonia internationally as a hub of knowledge, economic activity, and infrastructure related to this sector”
Roger Torrent, Minister of Business and Labour of Catalonia
The Minister of Business and Labour, Roger Torrent, assured that "the new IDEADED microchip plant will help us attract new projects and strengthen the industry and Catalan production system". Torrent made these statements at the inauguration of the IDEADED plant in Viladecans, which was also attended by the Minister of Economy and European Funds, Miquel Puig, the Mayor of Viladecans, Carles Ruiz, the Secretary General of Industry of the Spanish Government, Francisco Blanco, and the CEO of IDEADED, Eduard Puig.
In this sense, the councilor described the new facility as "great news", where IDEADED will test and produce a small series of microchips designed by the company, which has the largest private semiconductor clean room in Southern Europe.
During his speech, Torrent recalled that the government is working so that "our country leads the development of the semiconductor industry in southern Europe, joining efforts with the research world and the private sector, making our assets count." "We want to position Catalonia internationally as a hub of knowledge, economic activity, and infrastructure related to this sector", he concluded.
The CEO of IDEADED, Eduard Puig, highlighted "the great opportunity of being able to manufacture 'first of a kind' semiconductor technologies (advanced technologies) and that they will be manufactured for the first time in Catalonia and Spain". Eduard Puig has asked the President of the European Commission, Ursula von den Meyer, "to support first-of-a-kind manufacturing initiatives in Europe".
IDEADED was founded in 2015 in Girona by Eduard Puig as an R&D and manufacturing company for innovative and scalable solutions in the semiconductor market. The company's mission is to facilitate access to the semiconductor industry by being the most advanced supplier of flexible electronics.
