The german technological firm responsible for developing the application mytaxi to book taxis via mobile phones and internet, has just opened its spanish office in barcelona, providing work for 6 people in the plaza españa.

set up three years ago in hamburg by the entrepreneurs sven külper and niclaus mewes, the start up firm was first drawn to the catalan city, given its status as mobile world congress capital. "the fact the city is mobile world capital, coupled with its fleet of over 10,000 taxis, making a total of 60 million trips per year, make barcelona an ideal choice for setting up operations,” explained johann völkers, chief executive of the firm in spain.

the company resources have been channelled mainly into the pan-.european internationalisation of the application. among the firm’s main goals for the current year is that of breaking into markets in the uk and setting up a base in london. the application is already up and running in 30 cities in germany, austria and switzerland.
