The Continental plant in Rubí (Barcelona) is participating in the making of protective face visors with 3D printing machines to be used in Intensive Care Units of hospitals in Catalonia.
The Germany-based automotive company has joined the initiative Coronavirus Makers, a group of volunteers that, since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, has mobilized nearly 20,000 makers in Spain to manufacture medical equipment for hospitals, such as visors, respirators, or masks.
Continental Rubí is using 3D printers from its Plastics and Electronics department, and also other makers from Rubí are collaborating in a personal capacity with their own 3D printing equipment. The 3D Continental equipment in Rubí has also been put at their disposal.
At the moment, the company is manufacturing face visors and ear protectors for using masks, and as soon as the health validation is available, it will collaborate also in the manufacture of respirators. Continental has produced more than 3,000 visors to date.
The distribution is being performed according to priority established by CatSalut, the Catalan health system.
