Catalonia - first choice destination for overseas tourists in 2011

Catalonia was clearly the place to visit for foreign tourists to spain in 2011, with nearly 14 million visitors to the territory from overseas, almost 5% up on the previous year. this figure represented approximately one quarter (24.3%) of all visitor numbers to spain.

moreover, catalonia broke its own record for revenue from overseas tourism, with a total of €11.3 billion notched up, some 8% more than the year before.

all in all, catalonia welcomed a total of 23.5 million visitors, including domestic tourists, those from the rest of spain and abroad, which represents a 5.7% year on year rise.
