Barcelona hosts Battery Innovation Days, Nov 26-27, Europe's top forum on battery tech, spotlighting Catalonia's role in sustainable energy innovation.
Barcelona will be the center of Europe's battery research and innovation from November 26 to 27, as it hosts the Battery Innovation Days. This premier event, now in its fourth edition, will bring together leading industry experts, researchers, and policymakers to discuss and explore developments in battery technologies, growth strategies, and sustainable practices within the European landscape.

Miquel Sàmper, Minister of Business and Labour of the Government of Catalonia
This year, the event takes place in Barcelona, following its previous editions in Brussels and Bordeaux. Organized by the Government of Catalonia through ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment and its OPTIMA Office, this gathering highlights Catalonia's strong commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions.
With the global demand for such technologies rising, Catalonia aims to establish itself as a key player in the European battery ecosystem. Currently, over 200 companies, primarily SMEs, are involved in the battery value chain within the region, contributing approximately 3,000 jobs and generating around €690 million in revenue.
Miquel Sàmper, Minister of Business and Labour of the Government of Catalonia, commented on the potential that electric mobility has for Catalonia: "Catalonia has a big stake in the electric mobility sector. We are an industrial region in Europe that has been actively involved in the automotive industry for over 60 years, which is why today our production capacity is immense. We make half a million vehicles per year, which places Catalonia as the main manufacturer of cars in Spain, a country that is now the second largest manufacturer in Europe".
The fourth edition of Battery Innovation Days will focus on the challenges and opportunities Europe is facing in battery production and technology. It will address key questions regarding Europe’s readiness for solid-state technology and the methods for cost-effective battery production. The forum will also explore Europe’s battery policy in the context of emerging global and geopolitical challenges, bringing together insights from major EU projects and industry leaders from Catalonia.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to visit ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment's booth, tour the ALBA Synchrotron and IDIADA technological facilities, and connect with prominent European initiatives such as Batteries Europe, Battery 2030+, BEPA, and IPCEI Batteries. Together, these initiatives aim to foster a competitive, sustainable battery value chain across Europe.
We connect international companies to key partners to help them set up, succeed, and grow in Catalonia.
