Barcelona’s airport reaches 52.6M passengers and sets a new record in 2019

Barcelona’s airport has set a new traffic record and reached 52.6M passengers in 2019, 5% more than the previous year. The number of international passengers is the one that has increased the most, growing by 5.4%, with a total of 38.6 million users, while domestic passengers have grown by 4.2% to 14 million.
Altogether, some 344,000 flights have departed from or landed in Barcelona. This signifies a 2.7% increase compared to 2018. International operations have risen the most (+2.9%), while domestic ones have increased by 2.1%. These operations were, mainly commercial flights. In terms of cargo flights, they reached over 177,000 tons in 2019, 2.5% more compared to the previous year.
The number of passengers has risen yearly without interruption since 2009, when 27.4 million people departed or landed in Barcelona, nearly half of the total number of passengers in 2018.
December 2019
A total of 3.6 million passengers has used Barcelona’s airport, which is 4.8% more than in 2018. International flights have gathered 2.6 million passengers, 5.7% more than in the same month of 2018, while domestic flights have grown by 2.3% with around 1 million passengers. The number of movements during the last month of the year amounted to 25,151, a 1% increase compared to December 2018. In December, the airport operated 17,779 international flights (+1.6%) and 7,226 domestic flights (-0.3%).
