Zoetis invests €100 million in Catalonia to expand its production plant

Zoetis, a US-based global leader in animal health and a Fortune 500 company, has invested close to €100 million to build and adapt production facilities at its plant in La Vall de Bianya (Girona). With this investment, the company has created around 15 new jobs and foresees expanding its workforce by up to 100 additional employees over the next four years.

For this expansion project in its operations in Catalonia, Zoetis has received support from ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment, the agency for business growth belonging to the Ministry for Business and Labour, thanks to €640,000 from the High-Impact Business Projects support scheme.

The project, initiated in 2023 with construction work and equipment purchase, is currently in its final building phase. The new production spaces will be added to the nearly 25,000 m² already built at the plant, which forms part of a total site area of 76,400 m².

Zoetis, which employs around 350 people in La Vall de Bianya, traces its origins back to the founding of Laboratorios Sobrino in 1955 and its subsequent acquisition by the pharmaceutical group Pfizer. In 2013, the group’s animal health division was established as an independent company under the Zoetis brand.

Headquartered in the United States, Zoetis is the world’s leading animal health company. It operates in more than 100 countries, employs over 13,800 people worldwide, and in 2024 generated revenues of $9.3 billion. This new investment reinforces Catalonia’s position as a strategic hub for high-value industrial projects in the life sciences and health sectors, and as a competitive location for US companies seeking to grow in Europe.
