Catalan Pitch Competition

The finalist startups delivered multiple pitches during the Catalan Pitch Competition before entrepreneurs attending the event and a jury of around ten venture capital investors who ultimately chose the best project. During the first phase of the competition, held on Wednesday, the audience selected 15 startups from the pool of finalists to advance to Thursday’s grand final, where the investors ultimately chose the winning project.

Throughout the competition, startup projects from sectors such as life sciences and healthcare, ICT, and industrial technologies were showcased, aiming to boost their search for funding.

As part of Tech Spirit Barcelona - driven by Tech Barcelona, the association representing the city’s digital and tech ecosystem- ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment organized over 600 pre-scheduled meetings on Wednesday and Thursday at Barcelona’s Llotja de Mar, connecting Catalonia’s most prominent investors with Catalan startups to support their funding efforts. In parallel, several roundtable discussions were held featuring representatives from Catalan companies and startups such as Qilimanjaro, Busup, and ScentXP by Puig.

YPlasma: Revolutionizing Thermal Management and Aerodynamics with Cutting-Edge Plasma Technology

The Catalan startup YPlasma has developed a new technology to improve the thermal management of electronic devices, the aerodynamics of airplane wings, and the blades of wind turbines. They have achieved this with a technology based on a device consisting of two electrodes separated by an insulating material. When connected to a high-voltage power source, an electrical impulse is transmitted, which, with the generated current, creates plasma (a state of matter composed of charged particles, such as electrons and ions, generated by intense electric or magnetic fields). This acts as an actuator that allows heating, ventilation, or improving the aerodynamics of objects and surfaces to which it is applied.
