For its expansion process in Catalonia, Punto Health was supported by the London office of Catalonia Trade & Investment.
The British company Punto Health, specialized in technological solutions for the care of Alzheimer’s and other dementias, has opened a subsidiary in Barcelona to consolidate its activity in Catalonia. The company has developed a digital platform based on artificial intelligence that provides personalized support to patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals to improve care for people with mild cognitive impairment and dementia.
To establish itself in Catalonia, Punto Health has been supported by the Catalonia Trade & Investment Office in London.
Specifically, the Punto Health platform integrates two main tools: on the one hand, a digital test for the early detection and monitoring of cognitive impairment risk (called PuntoTest); and on the other, a daily care application with cognitive stimulation plans, physical exercise, lifestyle and disease management advice, a symptom diary, and a virtual assistant based on expert-validated information (PuntoCare).
The British company has Catalan roots, having been founded in 2023 by Catalan engineer Anna Muñoz-Farré, the company’s CEO, and British engineer Jack Eckersley, CTO. From the outset, Punto Health has created its tools in Catalan, English, and Spanish with the aim of maintaining a connection with Catalonia and contributing to transforming cognitive health management through technology.
To develop its technology, the company collaborates with the Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona, led by its CEO, Miren Gurrutxaga, and Dr. Mercè Boada. In fact, during June and July this year, the two entities, together with Nutricia, promoted a rapid screening program for the early detection of cognitive impairment in more than a dozen pharmacies in Barcelona. Over 1,500 people over the age of 50 took part, and cases identified as high risk were referred to medical professionals for more thorough clinical evaluation.
In parallel, PuntoCare is currently in a pilot phase in centers across Catalonia, such as the Hospital de Granollers (neuropsychology service), Hospital del Mar (geriatrics service led by Dr. Vázquez), and Prytanis Care Centers (with Dr. Coll). At these centers, teams are applying the tool to provide more personalized and continuous care for people at risk of or diagnosed with cognitive impairment. They are also conducting training and awareness workshops in community centers across Barcelona.
Punto Health now has offices in both London and Barcelona, where it operates with a multidisciplinary team spanning engineering, healthcare, and business profiles.
