Part of the US-based Take-Two Interactive group, Socialpoint has moved into the 22@ district, from which it serves its operations across Europe and employs more than 350 people. The company has received support from ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment for its expansion projects in Catalonia.

The Catalan Minister for Business and Labour, Miquel Sàmper, took part this morning in the inauguration of Socialpoint’s new hub in Barcelona. Socialpoint is a subsidiary of Zynga Inc., the publishing label fully owned by Take-Two Interactive (Nasdaq: TTWO). These are the company’s main European facilities. With 5,766 m² of offices in the 22@ district, the company, originally founded in Catalonia, provides services to the group throughout Europe while employing more than 350 people in the Catalan capital.

For its expansion projects in Catalonia, Socialpoint has received support from ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment, the public agency for business growth belonging to the Ministry for Business and Labour. During its intervention, Minister Sàmper highlighted that "Catalonia has a well-established ecosystem in the video game sector and digital industry, which includes around 239 video game studios. This sector generates an annual turnover of 709 million euros and employs over 4,600 professionals."

“Barcelona offers a world-class environment, we are able to bring international talent here from all over the world”

Akshay Bharadwaj, CEO of Socialpoint

The head of Business and Labour stated that Socialpoint is "one of the most important gaming companies in Europe and around the world.” It has consolidated more than 120 qualified jobs in Barcelona, "reinforcing Barcelona's position as a hub for talent, creativity, and technology.”

According to Socialpoint's Studio Head, Akshay Bharadwaj, "Barcelona is a significant location in the video game industry. Socialpoint was born and raised in Barcelona and has its roots here. We are part of a large ecosystem and have the support of local universities, associations, and events such as the Mobile World Congress and Tech Spirit. This is the beginning of a journey for Socialpoint in Barcelona and a new era for us."

Socialpoint moved to its new premises during the second half of 2024, which are now fully operational. Over this period, the mobile gaming company has consolidated more than 120 jobs in Barcelona. From these facilities, Socialpoint centralizes all of the company’s design activity, with a multidisciplinary team including artists, developers, and engineers, among others. This team has enabled the company to strengthen its role within the group globally and increase local production.

The company’s new premises are located in a LEED Platinum building, the highest rating within the most demanding sustainability certification. This translates into features such as reduced potable water consumption through low-flow technologies, the use of native plants, and the integration of rooftop solar panels for renewable energy. The office interiors also draw inspiration from Barcelona, featuring colours and design elements that incorporate materials such as ceramics created by local artists.

In addition, Socialpoint’s offices are the first in Catalonia, and among the first in Europe, to be certified as Autism Friendly. In fact, the facilities were designed specifically to accommodate people on the autism spectrum.

Founded in 2008 in Barcelona as a video game developer, Socialpoint has been part of the US-based Take-Two Interactive group since 2017. In 2022, the group also acquired Zynga, the company to which the Barcelona studio currently reports.

This Barcelona hub, Socialpoint’s only office, is the main Take-Two Interactive and Zynga facility on the continent and one of the company’s key sites in the EMEA region, alongside its London office. From Barcelona, the group also centralizes much of Zynga’s global management for EMEA, as well as the finance and IT teams for Take-Two Interactive’s operations in Spain, along with other specialized functions. Part of the Barcelona team also works for the rest of the Zynga studios within the group.

To date, Socialpoint has launched more than ten titles internationally, accumulating close to 1 billion downloads. Their most successful games include Dragon City, Monster Legends, and Two Dots.
