Electrical component and systems manufacturer Schneider Electric has expanded its logistics centre in Sant Boi de Llobregat (Barcelona) to cover a total of 58,000m2 making it into the largest facility the company owns worldwide.
The growth of the logistics platform near Barcelona saw an investment of €10m, which has enabled the firm to double the surface area it previously occupied.
The site, which came into service back in 2002, employs some 325 workers and now, as a result of the expansion process, a further 80 employees are expected to be taken on in order to handle the estimated 4 million orders the company anticipates receiving from Europe, Africa, Asia and South America.
According to a spokesperson of Schneider Electric, the firm had opted for the Sant Boi site given its location both near to the port as well as its proximity to Barcelona Airport, in addition to the fact that the centre was highly competitive.
Schneider Electric is present in over 100 countries worldwide employing a total of 130,000 workers. In Spain the company now has a total of nine production facilities in operation.
This project has received support from the Catalan inward investment organisation, Invest in Catalonia.
