German multinational Fischer invests €4 million to enhance its Mont-roig del Camp logistics center, with support from Catalonia Trade & Investment.

The German multinational company Fischer will invest €4 million to automate and digitalize the processes of its logistics center in Mont-roig del Camp (Catalonia), with the goal of having it operational by mid-2026. Thus, the Spanish subsidiary of the company—known for inventing nylon wall plugs and specializing in fastening technologies—will have, in Catalonia, the first warehouse of its kind outside Germany. In addition, the investment will enable the creation of up to five new jobs and the consolidation of around forty more.

To carry out this project, Fischer Ibérica received support from Catalonia Trade & Investment, the business competitiveness agency of the Ministry for Business and Labour. Specifically, the company was granted €2.25 million through the 2024 high-impact business investment subsidy program, which is financed by the Nuclear Transition Fund aimed at promoting business projects in areas affected by the closure of nuclear power plants.

“Since 2015, we have doubled our turnover, which has stretched logistics to its limits and requires us to upgrade”

Jesús Boadas, Chief Financial and Operations Officer of Fischer Ibérica

According to Jesús Boadas, Chief Financial and Operations Officer of Fischer Ibérica: "From Mont-roig del Camp, we manage all logistics for the group in Spain and Portugal, and this investment secures this center as a pioneer outside Germany." He also stated:"Since 2015, we have doubled our turnover, which has stretched logistics to its limits and requires us to upgrade our processes to become more efficient and meet current and future demand."

The investment entails the complete transformation of the logistics center through the digitalization of current processes and the automation of tasks such as storage and order preparation. In this regard, radio frequency systems will be implemented to identify, control, and track products.

The company will also adopt the latest generation of ‘Autostore’ automated warehouse systems, which transport products from their storage location to employee workstations for packaging, using software that records all movements. In addition, conveyor belts will be installed for automatic transport and autonomous pallet movement, among other improvements. A semi-automatic end-of-line system will also be implemented to increase the center’s capacity and reduce order preparation errors.

The project also includes relocating the offices to another part of the facility to free up space for the automated warehouse and building a covered outdoor storage area for large-volume products (between 3 and 6 meters long) intended for mechanical installation, photovoltaic panels, and facades.

The Fischer Group, founded in 1948 in Germany, has 52 subsidiaries in 39 countries worldwide and employs over 5,400 people. The multinational operates in several divisions, including fastening, consulting, educational construction toys, complex assembly automation, and tool manufacturing.

Fischer Ibérica, the Spanish subsidiary founded in 1962, employs 120 people and focuses on the fastening sector. It has its headquarters and a 15,000-square-meter warehouse in Mont-roig del Camp, as well as offices in Sant Cugat del Vallès (Barcelona) and Madrid.
