The end of the America's Cup 2024 will leave a legacy of innovation and sustainability in Catalonia.

Emirates Team New Zealand made history by becoming the first team to win the America's Cup three times in a row. The final race took place in Barcelona against INEOS Britannia, in a highly competitive event that ultimately saw Emirates Team New Zealand secure victory by 37 seconds.

This victory marked the end of a thrilling competition that transformed Barcelona into a global hub of innovation and sustainability. Beyond the races and celebrations, the America's Cup left a lasting legacy that continues to shape the city's future.

Peter Burling, skipper of Emirates Team New Zealand, said after the race: "It’s a pretty surreal feeling, it's still definitely sinking in. In the America's Cup you’re all ready for a long battle but to be able to get it done today in just beautiful sailing conditions with a little bit of shift in it and just so many people cheering us on, was amazing".

Burling added, "Just incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished. The America's Cup has got to be one of the hardest sporting trophies in the world to win. You’ve got to have so many parts come together to make it all work and now having done that three times in a row, it’s incredibly special".

Barcelona's partnership with the 37th America's Cup went beyond a strategic move; it represented a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and economic growth. This collaboration sparked a series of initiatives, establishing the city as a leader in multiple sectors.

The America's Cup served as a catalyst for technological advancements, particularly in introducing hydrogen-powered support boats, demonstrating Barcelona's commitment to sustainability and its role as a pioneer in the green hydrogen sector.

Catalonia launched a public-private initiative to transition the nautical sector from fossil fuels to renewable energy, strengthening the industry's impact and the legacy of the 37th America's Cup. The project entailed the construction of six vessels that sailed during the America's Cup, showcasing Catalonia's technological prowess to the world and accelerating the decarbonization of the Catalan nautical sector.

In addition, the America's Cup launched its first official video game and e-sports championship in partnership with ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment. Inspired by the races, the video game engaged fans and showcased the city's innovative spirit.

The America's Cup provided a global platform for Barcelona to showcase its rich culture, vibrant economy, and commitment to innovation. The event attracted international talent, stimulated local businesses, and solidified the city's reputation as a premier destination for investment.

The impact of the America's Cup extends far beyond the races themselves. The event has inspired new ideas, fostered partnerships, and left a lasting legacy that will continue to shape Barcelona's future. As we celebrate Emirates Team New Zealand's victory, it's clear that the America's Cup was more than just a competition; it was a catalyst for change, a testament to Barcelona's innovative spirit, and a lasting legacy that will inspire generations to come.
