Decathlon invests 53.4 million Euros in a new logistics center in Barcelona

Decathlon, a leading sports equipment company, has inaugurated a new logistics warehouse located in the city of Barcelona, at just 10 minutes from the airport and adjacent to the Port of Barcelona.
With a global investment of €53.4M and built in just 14 months in the midst of the pandemic, the new Decathlon continental center has a capacity of 95,987 m², being one of the largest in all of Spain.
According to the company’s release, the new center follows the strictest criteria of energy efficiency, sustainability and healthy working conditions that dictates the LEED PLATINUM certification from the US Green Building Council.
The warehouse has integrated photovoltaic panels for self-consumption, an integrated building management system to control artificial lighting with sensors, and construction materials that respect the carbon footprint. The logistics center that has been built by CILSA, the company that manages the logistics area at the Port of Barcelona (ZAL Port).
Marc Mata, director of the new Decathlon continental center, stated: “We are very proud to have a team of more than 325 collaborators, who made it possible for us to start a project of this magnitude in record time. In addition, we have reinforced the team with 51 new hires, to which another 20 more logistics profiles will be added in the coming months”.
Alfonso Martínez, CILSA's general director, said: “This new warehouse is unique in all of the logistics sector in Catalonia due to its location and its size, and because it meets the standards of the highest certifications in sustainability. It confirms that the ZAL Port is a benchmark in the logistics market of Barcelona”.
