Catalonia and India's leading tech association join forces on new cooperation deal

Minister Miquel Sàmper signed the agreement with NASSCOM in New Delhi, opening new paths for innovation, investment and technology partnerships between Catalonia and India.
The Minister for Business and Labour Miquel Sàmper signed a cooperation agreement on Tuesday between ACCIÓ -Catalonia Trade & Investment (the agency for business growth belonging to the Ministry for Business and Labour), and NASSCOM, India’s leading technology industry association. At an event held in New Delhi, the Minister signed the agreement, under which the two organizations will strengthen institutional cooperation to promote innovation, technology partnerships, investment, internationalization and business collaboration, as well as knowledge exchange between the Catalan and Indian tech ecosystems.
According to Minister Sàmper, “strengthening business and technology ties with India is a strategic priority if we are to take advantage of the opportunities opening up in a market with as much potential as India, where Catalan companies still have considerable room for growth”. He added: “The cooperation agreement between ACCIÓ and NASSCOM gives us an exceptional partner to help facilitate technological collaboration with India in particular.”
The National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) is India’s leading technology industry association and one of the sector’s foremost organizations internationally. Founded in 1988, it represents more than 3,000 companies, ranging from major multinationals to startups and SMEs, and works to promote the competitiveness, innovation and growth of India’s digital and technology ecosystem. NASSCOM also acts as an interlocutor between the private sector and public administrations, promotes digital training and talent, and supports the internationalization of Indian companies, particularly in areas such as information technology, digital services, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
Through the cooperation agreement with ACCIÓ -Catalonia Trade & Investment, the two organizations have committed to strengthening business, technology, and investment collaboration between Catalonia and India by fostering synergies among companies, startups, research centers, innovation clusters, and other stakeholders within their respective ecosystems. Cooperation will focus particularly on strategic technology fields such as artificial intelligence, deep tech, semiconductors, health technologies, energy and space, with the aim of generating new opportunities for development, innovation and shared economic growth.
ACCIÓ -Catalonia Trade & Investment and NASSCOM will also be able to jointly organize business delegations, institutional visits, ecosystem exchange programs and knowledge-transfer activities, including conferences, seminars, webinars and specialized workshops. The agreement will also promote participation in international innovation and technology events, dialogue on policies related to innovation, entrepreneurship, digital transformation and emerging technologies, as well as the creation of networking opportunities for companies and other relevant stakeholders.
The agreement was signed during Minister Sàmper’s institutional mission to India this week. During the visit, Sàmper has also held meetings with the Delhi regional government’s Minister of Industries and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). He is also due to meet with the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), technology multinational HCL and the Waaree Group.
Trade relations between Catalonia and India
Trade relations between Catalonia and India are growing. India has risen from being Catalonia’s 18th-largest trading partner in 2016 to its 15th-largest in 2025. Catalan exports to the Asian country have also doubled over the past 10 years, reaching €652 million in 2025. Organic chemicals, machinery and aluminum are among the main products India imports from Catalonia. Catalan exports to India account for 31% of Spain’s total exports to the country.
Imports, meanwhile, have increased by 61% over the past decade, reaching €2.135 billion in 2025. Catalonia primarily imports organic chemicals, fuels and clothing from India. Overall, 34% of India’s exports to Spain are destined for Catalonia.
The Government’s drive to internationalize Catalan companies
The mission forms part of the new 2026–2030 Strategy for the Internationalization of the Catalan Economy, promoted by the Government and led by ACCIÓ -Catalonia Trade & Investment, which aims to help Catalonia’s business community adapt to the new international trade reality.
The strategy’s objectives include maintaining Catalonia’s current position as Spain’s leading region by export volume, helping 2,000 new Catalan companies begin exporting, and increasing the number of Catalan companies with subsidiaries abroad to 3,500.
