This is the second business mission to Asia under the Catalan Wines program, which aims to promote the international commercialization of Catalan wines and sparkling wines.

Eleven Catalan wineries are promoting their wines and sparkling wines in the Chinese city of Shenzhen and the Hong Kong region as part of a business mission organized by ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment, the agency for business growth of the Ministry for Business and Labour. The trip is part of ACCIÓ’s Catalan Wines Programme, which aims to boost the international commercialization of Catalan wines and sparkling wines, and this year celebrates its second edition in Asia, following the experience launched in June 2025 in Shanghai and Taiwan.

Specifically, the business mission already held its first event this Saturday in Shenzhen, where Catalan wineries presented their products to more than 70 importers, distributors, sommeliers, restaurateurs, and professionals from the sector and the HORECA channel (hotels, restaurants, and cafés).The mission continued this Monday in Hong Kong, where more than forty professionals attended.

“Catalan wines are generating increasing interest among Asian professionals seeking authenticity, quality and differentiation”

The program combines masterclasses on Catalan wines and sparkling wines, meetings between wineries and local agents, and professional tastings featuring a selection of products from Catalonia’s different designations of origin. The aim is to generate business opportunities and showcase the diversity and quality of Catalonia’s wine sector.

According to the director of ACCIÓ-Catalonia’s Trade and Investment Offices in Hong Kong and Shanghai, Madrona Marcet, “despite the evolution of the global wine market, Asia continues to be a strategic region for high-quality international wines”. In this regard, she highlights that “the Asian market presents growth opportunities in the premium and super-premium segments, especially among increasingly urban consumers interested in wines with identity, origin and history”.

Marcet also underlined that “Hong Kong continues to consolidate its position as one of Asia’s major wine distribution and re-export platforms, playing a key role in introducing international wines into the regional market”. In this context, she notes that “from internationally recognized sparkling wines to wines from small designations of origin with strong personality, Catalan wines are generating increasing interest among Asian professionals seeking authenticity, quality and differentiation”. In fact, according to ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment estimates, Catalan exports of wines and sparkling wines worldwide grew by 11.7% between 2020 and 2025.

As well as the tastings, masterclasses, and networking sessions, visits to specialized points of sale have also been organized. In Shenzhen, participating wineries toured several wine shops and specialized supermarkets in the Futian district, while in Hong Kong, visits were planned to leading establishments in the Tsim Sha Tsui district.

The wineries participating in this business mission are Alsina & Sardà, Casa Mariol, Celler Kripta, Celler Germans Balart, Celler Marco Abella, Celler Pallarades, Clos Alkio, Covides, Mastinell, Parés Baltà, and Vall Llach.

Since 2010, the Catalan Wines Programme has promoted the internationalization of Catalan wines and sparkling wines. Initially launched in the United States, one of the world’s leading wine markets, the program has hosted more than 40 business events there, and most tastings continue to take place in the country.

In recent years, additional events have been organized in European countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Denmark, as well as in other international markets such as Mexico. Since last year, the program has strengthened its presence in Asia with business missions to Shanghai, Taiwan, and, this year, Shenzhen and Hong Kong.
