AkzoNobel to invest €14 million and create over 70 new jobs in Catalonia

The Dutch company AkzoNobel has committed €14 million to expand the production capacity of its factories in the Zona Franca and Vilafranca del Penedès (Barcelona). This significant investment will create over 70 new jobs in the region.

AkzoNobel is a global company that specializes in the manufacture and sale of paints, coatings, and specialty chemicals. The company's products are used in a variety of industries, including automotive, aerospace, construction, and consumer goods. The company’s new project in Barcelona-Catalonia has been supported by ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment, Catalonia's business competitiveness agency, belonging to the Ministry of Business and Labour.

As a leading manufacturer of paints and coatings, AkzoNobel is relocating its Automotive Interior and Metal product portfolio in Europe to its centers in Barcelona and Vilafranca del Penedès. This move was celebrated with an opening ceremony today at its Zona Franca facility in Barcelona, attended by Joan Romero, Executive Director of ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment.

In addition to increasing production capacity, AkzoNobel has introduced new R&D facilities for the automotive sector in Catalonia. The company aims to leverage this investment to provide superior quality and service to its clients.

AkzoNobel’s presence in Catalonia

With a commercial presence in more than 150 countries, AkzoNobel employs over 1,100 people in Catalonia. The company opened a new planning hub for Europe in Barcelona two years ago. The Zona Franca facilities in Barcelona serve as the company's headquarters in Spain.
