
La seda enters the automotive business

La seda de barcelona and leitat technology center have developed a new pet polymer for the manufacture of car components. the project required an investment of eur 1.7 million, with acc1ó covering 38% of the cost. "the new polymer meets all the sector's requirements and does not require additional investments (in new machinery) from component manufacturers," leitat coo antonio pons said.
the new pet is cheaper to produce than current polyamide and is fully recyclable. manufacturing is expected to start later this year at la seda's el prat plant. the new polymer has a potential market of 300,000 tons per year.
