Key role of Barcelona Lab in Intel chip production
Business Investments
01 Feb 2011
Sandy Bridge, the new generation of Intel core processors for PCs and laptops, has its origins on the shores of the Mediterranean. Intel’s Barcelona and Israeli labs have been at the forefront of the development of these new processors, with the Catalan facility having led a number of phases in the complex processes of improving this technology.
The Spanish laboratory was commissioned with three major tasks: to make processors more efficient in their use of technology, ensure chips maintained the highest levels of reliability, and thirdly to redesign their architecture to accommodate new memory technologies to substitute the current dynamic RAM.
