ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment to lead European project to innovate in cluster policy
- Other entities from Denmark and Lower Austria also take part in the Clusters Innovation Programme (CLIP) with the aim of perfectionating cluster programs to improve competitive of these territories
ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment, the Catalan Government’s agency for business competitiveness, will lead a European project to promote innovation in the field of clusters. The Clusters Innovation Program (CLIP) aims to improve cluster programs through personalized services, thus helping to improve the competitiveness of the participating regions.
In addition to Catalonia, Denmark and Lower Austria will also participate in the initiative, which is part of the Horizon 2020 program. ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment represents Catalonia as a promoter of the Catalonia Clusters program, while Cluster Excellence Denmark will be the entity that will coordinate the project in Denmark and Ecoplus, in Lower Austria. The project will run for one year and will have an overall budget of €50,000 awarded by the European Commission.
Specifically, the project will focus on three areas to improve the cluster programs of the participating regions: to analyze the relevance of developing a multilevel cluster program; to improve the governance of the system and to work for a better integration of the functioning dynamics of clusters with other policies.
Over the next year there will be working meetings, focus groups with cluster organizations, as well as webinars and outreach events between the three participating agencies. In a final phase, a document will be prepared with proposals for improvement and changes to refine the policies and tools used by each territory to promote clusters. The result aims to strengthen cluster organizations so that they can provide more tailored services to their partners.
Catalonia has previously collaborated with entities in Austria and Denmark in the field of clusters. This is the case of the European Cluster Excellence Initiative project, aimed at improving and professionalizing cluster organizations, as well as their level of transparency and the current European cluster certification system.
