WestJet launches seasonal non-stop route from Halifax to Barcelona starting summer 2025.
Canada’s WestJet airline has announced the launch of a new non-stop seasonal route connecting Halifax (Nova Scotia) with Barcelona, starting on June 27, 2025. The service will operate four times per week throughout the summer, marking the first-ever direct connection between Atlantic Canada and Catalonia.
This new transatlantic link strengthens business and tourism ties between the two regions, making it easier than ever for Canadian travelers to reach Southern Europe — and for visitors from Spain and beyond to explore the Canadian East Coast.
With this announcement, WestJet continues to expand its European offering from Halifax Stanfield International Airport. In summer 2025, the airline will operate more transatlantic routes from Halifax than ever before, including destinations such as Amsterdam, Paris, and now Barcelona, alongside the return of flights to London, Dublin, and Edinburgh.
John Weatherill, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer, emphasized the significance of the new route: "This route is poised to become a favourite among those eager to explore Spain and beyond. Service between Halifax and Barcelona complements our most significant transatlantic schedule from Atlantic Canada. As demand for travel to Europe remains strong, this addition offers more choice and flexibility for Canadians living on the East Coast".
For Catalonia, the direct air connection reinforces its role as a Mediterranean hub and a strategic destination for international business and tourism. The route opens new opportunities to strengthen trade, investment, and collaboration between Catalonia and Atlantic Canada.
The seasonal service will run from June 27 to September 28 (Barcelona to Halifax: June 28 to September 29).
