The port of barcelona reaches new heights in passenger and cruise liner numbers this year

Until the month of july this year, barcelona has hosted a total of 452 cruises (21 more than the previous year), with a total of 1.3 million passengers docking at the cruise terminal, 16% up on the same period last year.
in recent years, the port of barcelona has taken top spot among cruises both in mediterranean and european waters, currently occupying fourth position in worldwide rankings, surpassed solely by the big three in florida: miami, port everglades and port canaveral.
on saturday august 20th the port beat its own record of passengers hosted in one day as a total of over 31,000 guests aboard 8 major vessels passed through the terminal in 24 hours. of these, seven were finishing or beginning their itineraries, namely; disney magic, ruby princess, sovereign, liberty of the seas, seadream i, silver wind and noordam, whilst nieuw amsterdam was making a scheduled stop en route to another mediterranean port. on august 26th no fewer than nine cruise ships docked in barcelona, bringing with them some 26,000 passengers on the following vessels; costa serena, carnival magic, cristal serenity, msc splendida, oriente queen, aidavita, corinthian ii, thomson dream and independence of the seas. .
