The Swedish company in the video game sector Paradox Interactive has opened a studio in Sitges (located30 minutes south of Barcelona) where it plans to hire about 30 employees this year. The studio has established a subsidiary in Catalonia under the name Paradox Tinto that will specialize in the design of strategy video games and content for its Europa Universalis IV game.
To set up in Catalonia, the company has had the support of Catalonia Trade & Investment, the Government’s agency for business competitiveness, and Sitges City Council.
According to the head of the study in Catalonia, Johan Andersson, the company decided to settle in Sitges for its “ecosystem of creativity and culture, which is very close to the world of video games”. “Sitges is very close to Barcelona, which is a very powerful and well-connected nucleus, which offers us the advantages of proximity to a large city, with the benefits of a smaller one, a differentiating point compared to other competitors in our sector”, he says.
"This has allowed us to attract qualified, well trained and international talent, more easily than in other cities," says Andersson. Specifically, the studio plans to hire profiles of technicians such as programmers, UX and UI designers and graphic artists.
Andersson also stresses that the company is committed to “diversity and inclusion of people, both values also Sitges stands for”. The video game company has an equality policy and an equitable presence of women executives.
The Swedish company set up its subsidiary in Catalonia at the end of 2020, but has started operating physically from its 200m2 offices in Sitges during the first half of 2021.
Founded in 1999, Paradox Interactive specializes in the development of video games for computers and consoles and has studios in the Nordic countries, the United States, France and the Netherlands.
