CoreWeave has opened a new AI data center in Barcelona, enhancing high-performance computing and sustainability in Europe.
North American company CoreWeave Inc. has chosen Barcelona as the location for one of Spain's first large-scale NVIDIA Hopper training and inference supercomputers. In partnership with MERLIN Properties and Edged, the AI infrastructure leader will host this powerful system at a newly inaugurated, ultra-efficient data center, reinforcing Barcelona's position as a key European tech hub.
Strategically located at the Port of Barcelona, the data center offers 15 MW of critical load capacity and is powered by 100% renewable energy. This facility is a significant step in CoreWeave's commitment to providing ultra-fast, sustainable, and scalable Artificial Intelligence infrastructure across Europe.

The facility was officially opened on May 13th by Barcelona's Mayor, Jaume Collboni, and Albert Tort, Secretary of Telecommunications and Digital Transformation at the Government of Catalonia.
The new site in Barcelona will be equipped with over 10,000 of NVIDIA's most advanced AI chips, all connected with ultra-fast networking technology. CoreWeave plans to expand the facility with even more powerful systems by 2026. Earlier this year, the company announced a $2.2 billion investment across Europe to bring cutting-edge AI cloud services and high-performance computing to the region, powered entirely by renewable energy.
The CoreWeave – MERLIN Edged partnership aims to expand this computing capacity across Southern Europe significantly.
Salvador Illa, President of the Government of Catalonia, stated in a written statement that "our region is articulating its ambition to establish itself as a preeminent European AI hub. This new partnership between CoreWeave and MERLIN Edged sets us at the forefront of the European artificial intelligence landscape."
"CoreWeave is pleased to collaborate with MERLIN Edged as it brings highly performant and scalable compute to Europe, powering the next wave of AI," said Mike Mattacola, GM, International at CoreWeave. "This collaboration aligns with our commitment to sustainability and continuously improving the efficiency of our operations."
"Catalonia is positioned as a strategic technology hub and combines a strong foundation of renewable energy with an extremely efficient, CO2-neutral base with nuclear infrastructure. Furthermore, the robust fiber connection to the rest of Spain, Europe, and the world allows us not only to meet local demand but also to actively attract top-tier international players in the AI field, like CoreWeave," said Ismael Clemente, CEO of MERLIN Properties.
CoreWeave is a fast-growing tech company that provides powerful cloud services designed to support the latest advances in artificial intelligence.
Since 2017, it has built a network of data centers across the US and Europe to meet the rising demand for high-performance computing. In 2024, CoreWeave was recognized as one of TIME's 100 most influential companies and featured on the Forbes Cloud 100 list.
