The German multinational in the health and food sector, Bayer, consolidates its growth in Catalonia by creating 100 new jobs in 2022 in its hub located in Sant Joan Despí (Barcelona).
This was announced by Bayer Iberia’s CEO, Bernardo Kanahuati, together with the Minister of Business and Labor of the Catalan Government, Roger Torrent. They both held a work meeting this morning. This process of expansion in Catalonia has received the support of Catalonia Trade & Investment.
Specifically, the 100 new professionals will develop ICT, finance, and logistics functions in the company's Global Business Services (GBS) in Sant Joan Despí, from where they work for the transformation and digitization of Bayer on a global scale. The workforce in this center has risen 56% in the last four years, going from 471 to 735 workers.
Bayer Iberia’s CEO, Bernardo Kanahuat, explained that "GBS’s sustained growth in Barcelona is a reflection of the vital work it carries out for Bayer and allows us to continue positioning Spain as a benchmark country for our global network while contributing to the development of the region".
This Catalan hub is in charge, for example, of applying data analytics in the value chain to improve the sustainability of the production process or using artificial intelligence to make predictions on patient product demand. Specifically, it works for the company 40% globally and 60% in the EMEA region.
Based in Leverkusen (Germany), Bayer currently has over 100,000 employees worldwide. Last year it showed a turnover of 44,100 million euros and allocated 5,300 million euros to R+D operations.
