Dutch company Ohpen, a cloud banking provider, will double its workforce in Barcelona with the creation of some 30 new jobs in a year. The technology development centre in the Catalan capital, established in 2017, is the only office Ohpen has in Southern Europe, where it currently employs 22 people.

Ohpen’s investment project in Catalonia is supported by Catalonia Trade & Investment, the Government’s agency for business competitiveness. According to Catalonia Trade & Investment data, there are currently 622 Dutch companies in Catalonia. In fact, this February, the Minister for Business and Knowledge, Angels Chacón, held a working meeting with the managers of Ohpen at the company's headquarters in Amsterdam.

Ohpen’s platform administers savings and investment accounts for companies such as banks, investment institutions and insurers more efficiently. Ohpen has recently moved to a new office space in Barcelona’s Passeig de Gràcia, with a surface area of 450 sqm, which is specialized in the development of software engineering and innovation projects. The technology company plans to expand its workforce with specialized professional profiles, such as software engineers, product owners and experts in quality assurance (QA) and user experience (UX).

According to the CEO of Ohpen, Matthijs Aler, the company decided to settle and grow in the Catalan capital "for three main reasons: the presence of good universities, the availability of highly qualified professionals and the fact that Barcelona is quickly becoming a technology hub of excellence”. Aler also says “Barcelona is a vibrant and attractive city for both local and foreign professionals, so together with our Head of Ohpen Technology Spain, Ayad Hindi, we are looking forward to growing and strengthening our team with this talent".

Globally, Ohpen, founded in 2009, has 150 employees in Amsterdam and Barcelona. It specializes in services for the financial sector, such as banks and asset managers.

The company is supported by Catalonia Trade & Investment, which is dedicated to foreign investment attraction. The agency operates from Barcelona alongside a network of 40 foreign trade and investment offices around the world, aiming to attract new foreign investment projects to Catalonia.
