Catalonia, recognised as the best southern european investment region for 2016 and 2017

Barcelona, march 15, 2016.- catalonia will be southern europe’s most attractive region for foreign investment in 2016 and 2017, according to the report fdi european cities and regions of the future 2016/2017 drawn up by the fdi intelligence division of the financial times. the secretary for business and competitiveness, joan aregio, received the award this tuesday in cannes during the celebration of the mipim congress.
this barometer, used by multinationals when studying future business investment projects, mentions the strategy used by catalonia to attract foreign investment – through the offices of catalonia trade & investment agency – and the general business climate found in the area.
furthermore, the study ranks barcelona as the top city in terms of best strategy for attracting foreign investment. it makes special mention of the infrastructures, such as the new line 9 for the city’s underground system, as well as its digital presence.
to establish this ranking the fdi intelligence division of the financial times collects information on 300 cities and 150 regions in six areas: economic potential, labour atmosphere, performance, infrastructures, favourable business climate and the strategy for foreign investment capture.
