29 Sep 2014
The objective of this new global information technology centre - together with its counterparts in Buenos Aires and Singapore - is to improve efficiency, optimise IT services, aligning them with global market needs, and to make better use of the German company’s resources and those of the countries in which it is present.
The new centre, which will serve all of Europe from its location in Sant Cugat del Valles in the Technological Valley just ouside of Barcelona, was opened by Artur Mas, the President of the Catalan Government, together with the Chairman of the Boehringer Ingelheim’s Shareholders’ Committee, Christian Boehringer.
Invest in Catalonia gave full assistance to Boehringer Ingelheim in the process of choosing Catalonia as the new location, and the fact that the region has a long pharmaceutical history as well as a pool of talented professional were both factors that led the firm to its final decision. This new centre now is employing 70 people, a number foreseen to rise to about 100 in the future.
The Boehringer Ingelheim group, whose motto is “Value through Innovation”, is one of the world’s 20 leading pharmaceutical companies. Headquartered in Ingelheim, Germany, it operates globally with 142 affiliates and more than 47,400 employees. Since it was founded in 1885, the family-owned company has been committed to researching, developing, manufacturing and marketing novel medications of high therapeutic value for human and veterinary medicine.
