Barcelona–El Prat Airport closed 2025 with a new all-time record in passenger numbers, reinforcing its role as one of Europe’s leading international hubs and a key gateway to Southern Europe. The airport handled 57.48 million passengers, a 4.4% increase compared to 2024, marking its best year ever.

The airport ranked as the second busiest in Spain, only behind Madrid-Barajas, and was one of 23 airports to set a new passenger record in 2025 within the Aena network.

Barcelona–El Prat also recorded a significant rise in operations, with 360,786 flights, up 3.7% year-on-year, confirming sustained growth in both domestic and international connectivity and strengthening Barcelona’s position as a strategic air hub in the Mediterranean.

Record cargo traffic reinforces Barcelona’s logistics role

Cargo traffic reached historic levels in 2025. Barcelona Airport handled 200,741 tonnes of air freight, a 10.5% increase, setting a new all-time high and underlining the city’s role as a key logistics and trade gateway for Southern Europe.

These results come within a record-breaking year for Aena, the Spanish airport operator that manages 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, as well as London Luton Airport in the United Kingdom and 17 airports in Brazil.

In Spain alone, Aena-managed airports recorded 321.6 million passengers, up 3.9% year-on-year, confirming the strength of air traffic demand across the country.

Investment plans to support future growth

According to Aena, the sustained rise in passenger traffic and operations is driving the design of new airport investment plans for the coming years. These plans aim to guarantee sufficient capacity and support ambitious expansion and modernization projects, ensuring Spain’s airport infrastructure continues to meet growing international connectivity needs.

Barcelona’s record figures highlight the city’s attractiveness as a global destination for tourism, business and investment, and confirm the airport’s central role in connecting Catalonia with major markets around the world.
