Barcelona has announced the inauguration of Pier03, the new technology hub in the city. This new 3,500m2-centre will host a specialised area for blockchain technologies, startups and a pioneer international project: Barcelona Civic Tech House. Named after the already working Pier01, the new hub will try to take its lead, as it is recognised as one of six most innovative hubs in the world according to Forbes.

The hub is launched by Barcelona Tech City, a non-profit association with over 800 entrepreneurs, startups and digital and technological companies placed in the Catalan capital. Its main goal is to strengthen Barcelona as an international technology hub and to promote innovation in the city’s entrepreneur’s ecosystem, which counts on 30.000 professionals.

In fact, Barcelona is now one of the most important technological hubs in the world and, according to Barcelona Tech City’s president, Miguel Vicente, “Pier03 proves the impact technological and digital ecosystem growth has in Barcelona and its consolidation as a focus for business and investment”.

Located next to Barcelona’s harbour, Pier03 will house over 20 companies and different corporate agents to create a transversal hub for innovation, growth and networking. The new centre will also be home to the pioneer Barcelona Civic Tech House, the first of a series of worldwide centres dedicated to responsible innovation and civic and ethical technology. This model will be replicated in cities like Manchester, Buenos Aires, Toronto and New York.
