The Minister of Business and Labour is attending the Hannover Messe fair to meet with leading multinationals in the industrial field and reinforce the role of Catalonia as one of southern Europe’s territories with the most assets in Industry 4.0

The Minister of Business and Labour, Roger Torrent, participates today in Germany in the Hannover Messe, the world’s most important Industry 4.0 trade fair. The trip aims to position Catalonia as one of southern Europe’s regions with the most assets in Industry 4.0 at an event attracting over 200,000 visitors and featuring the presence of the leading multinationals, public administrations, and technology centers from the global industrial panorama.

The mission is being organized by ACCIÓ-Catalonia Trade & Investment's offices in Germany and Denmark

During this visit, Torrent will hold several meetings with leading companies in the industry 4.0 sector, such as Siemens Energy, one of the top energy technology companies with 92,000 workers internationally, or SAP, a leading global multinational in the field of business management software design, with more than 110,000 workers and a hundred R+D centers around the world. He will also meet with executives from Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, Europe’s most important applied research center.

“Catalonia is one of Europe’s industrial drivers and has one of the continent’s most developed digital ecosystems”

Roger Torrent, Minister of Business and Labour of Catalonia

According to Torrent, “Catalonia is one of Europe’s industrial drivers and has one of the continent’s most developed digital ecosystems, two assets that combined with the generation of specialized talent and the presence of key scientific-technical infrastructures position us as one of the environments with the greatest capacities in the field of industry 4.0”.

This year, the Hannover Messe will emphasize connectivity and the industry's role in climate neutrality. Therefore, by participating in this event, Minister Torrent will learn the latest trends in advanced manufacturing and automation, the use of new energy resources such as hydrogen, and how the industry is incorporating technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and the cloud.

Denmark's commitment to digitalization and sustainability

To strengthen Catalonia's international connections in digitalization and sustainability, the Minister of Business and Labour will travel to Denmark tomorrow and Wednesday to meet with relevant technology centers to look into new ways of collaborating with Catalonia. Thus, for example, Torrent will visit Copenhagen and meet with Digital Hub Denmark, the public-private association that promotes digitization nationally, or the State of Green, which brings together more than 600 companies, institutions, and researchers to contribute to the energy transition, water management, green cities, and the circular economy. He will also meet with the Danish Technological Institute in the town of Taastrup, the country's leading technology energy transition center.

Taking advantage of his stay in Denmark, Minister Torrent will hold meetings with different executives from multinationals such as Hempel, who manufacture and market paint and has an R&D center in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, or IO Interactive. Last December, this video game company announced it was expanding its Barcelona studio by creating 150 new jobs over the coming years.
